5 Great Sights to see in Kuala Lumpur

Malaysia has always been one of my favorite Asian countries aside from Thailand and the Philippines. The country is rich in culture, history, and wonderful sights to see. Like other Asian countries, certain customs are also observed in Malaysia since most Malaysians are devout Muslims. What I love best about Malaysia is its capital city, Kuala Lumpur, or simply KL. When traveling to Malaysia, here are some sights to see in KL that you’ll surely love:

  1. Petronas Twin Towers - each 88 stories high, the Petronas Twin Towers was designed by architect Cesar Pelli and was built in 1998. These buildings used to be the tallest in the world, until Taipei 101 was built and measured higher by 508 m. What makes the twin towers popular is the Skybridge, one of the highest suspended bridges in the world. The good news is that it’s free to get to the Skybridge (since this is as high as visitors are permitted to go), but there are only 1,300 tickets given daily on a first-come, first-serve basis.

  2. KLCC Aquaria - a gigantic aquarium hosting 5,000 varieties of tropical fishes. Highlights of the aquarium feature the 90 meter long underwater tunnel, rare sand-tiger sharks, and the the 10 foot long gigantic Arapaima to name a few.
  3. KL Tower - a 421 m high telecommunications and broadcasting tower that has an observation deck that allows you to get a bird’s eye-view of the city. Some people mistake the KL Tower to be taller than the Petronas Twin Towers mainly because it is built on top of a hill.
  4. Sze Ya Temple - this is the oldest Chinese temple in KL, built in 1882. The temple is dedicated to Shen Kong, the guardian deity for the local Chinese miners.
  5. Batu Caves - there are about 273 steps that take you up to the Batu Caves, wherein you can see a large number of beautiful and fascinating statues of the Hindu Gods.

Just a tip: KL is packed during weekends, so try doing most of your sightseeing during weekdays, if possible. Also, there are a lot of other great destinations in KL. Try walking but bring a map - you never know if you stumble upon a great place that’s not on your travel brochure.
