An entry in the TFS Travel Journal
We enjoyed a leisurely breakfast and morning in our suite before leaving for the restaurant that we had attempted to find the other day. This time we had actual directions (as opposed to Fodor’s wrong ones) and got there relatively efficiently. We were rewarded with a fabulous home-cooked meal, this being the heart of Italian mushroom country and season. We started with the mixed appetizers, which were heavy on the funghi, with a creamy mushroom crostini being the most memorable. Then a tagliatelle pomodoro and a spaghetti w/quite tasty funghi, both of which were so fresh and homemade. Entrees were a grilled chicken-like bird with a light mustard sauce, and a mixed funghi plate with polenta. The bird was delicious (sorry, PC), and the 5 types of mushroom ranged from good to wonderful. We had no room for dolce, but happily finished up with a nice limoncello.
We then set off for Brescia, Italy and our chiropractor visit. The U.S. born and trained chiropractor had given us directions which did get us somewhat close, but just not close enough. We used the mobile phone and our finely-honed sense of Italian cities and finally happened upon his building. He was originally from Michigan (been here 11 years), and sounded a bit too much like Mr. Rogers, but he seemed happy to share some time with fellow Americans. He claimed that his technique was more subtle than that we were used to, but we both felt it was so subtle as to be basically unnoticeable. Whatever; we’ll be home soon enough.
Back on the Autostrada for several hours of zooming along with the natives (it’s also basically dark before 7pm, this ain’t no Scandanavia in July!). We finally arrived in town at almost 10pm, and checked into this hotel — a quintessential, seaside Ft. Lauderdale kind of place. Our original room was scarily small, but we asked for a larger room and were shown the room right next door which was a suite (separate living room) for a whopping $12 more! We have a small terrace and a nice view of the quiet bay along with the sound of small, lapping waves. We then spoke with Wendy’s brother, Dr. Scott who flew into Milan, Italy tonight,, to work on plans for his meeting us tomorrow following his wild two week singles’ tour of Spain and Portugal. It sure felt like a very long day, so we were happy to crawl into bed.
