Plans For TFS

Ten Foot Square is going to be a travel site experiment. We’re going to highlight ten wonderful regions of the world.

We’re going to try to talk about the things that people really care about when they are planning to travel. The site will not simply employ cookie-cutter facts that template across each region. Rather, we hope that each region comes with its own unique flavor…just like the cuisine.

The main TFS site is going to aggregate the headlines from each of the ten sub-sites and will therefore act as a hub. But it will also have some unique “general” content of its own (i.e. articles that aren’t region specific).

The site is an experiment in that it is being developed as a three year project. In other words, we are not looking for instant return on investment. Rather, our goal is to aim for a well developed product 3 years down the road and a fully monetized site 5 years down the road.

In today’s online world, timeframes of more than 1 year are not common. But we expect for normal people to still be seeking good information about regional travel five years from now. That is why we are in no hurry. That is why we are making this a long term project.

The plan is start the site off, focusing on slow growth, but to follow a very intentional growth model. In other words, each month that passes will see more and more committment to the site. Start slow, increase committment over time. That’s our slogan and we hope to see if it can bear good fruit. We call it an experiment because we don’t think that most online entrepreneurs take this approach…in fact, we think that most people take the opposite approach: put lots of work in at the very beginning and then give up on the project before it reaches its potential.

So here’s to seeing what a little patience and committment can do for the online entrepreneur.
