Tango Choices in Buenos Aires, Argentina

Buenos Aires is a sensual, sexy city. So no wonder it was the birth place of the sultry dance of tango. The dance created by Carlos Gardel with African roots is embedded throughout the city.

From the small corner tango bar to the elaborate dance halls, every type of personal taste is available. When traveling to Argentina participating or watching a tango show is something that should be put on the list.

Each Tango house has its own special charm and quality. The dancers are all highly trained yet have their own sparkle and flair. That is why, if you are at all interested in music of any kind, it is vital to go to at least two different Tango halls when visiting Argentina, especially Buenos Aires.

Here is a list of a few great Buenos Aires dance halls that shouldn’t be missed:

  • For the traditional tango La Esquina de Carlos Gardel is a must do. The establishment seats a lot of people at long tables. There is a movie at the beginning of dinner explaining the history of the dance. After dinner there are various shows showing the evolution of the dance. If you would like to have a private table be sure to ask for the private booth when making your reservation.
  • For more of a modern feel and singing go to Señor Tango. Another huge tango house, it is important to ask for a table near the stage if possible. The dancers take pictures with the guests before the show, if wanted. The dinner includes a gigantic, tasty steak and all-you-can-drink wine. The rendition of Don’t Cry for Me Argentina will make you cry.
  • If you like high class and five star service the Michelangelo is one not to be missed. The beginning of the evening starts with cocktail hour that is served in the wine cellar. As waiters walk around with tasty picadas a beautiful couple does a private dance in the middle of the small cellar. The dinner is tasty and is served as the show progresses on the main stage. Again, it is important to ask for a private booth if so desired.
  • Bar Sur is a small, quaint, corner bar/restaurant. The ambiance is old fashioned and a bit ma and pop but interesting none the less. You feel like you are a part of the tango scene because of the close-knit feeling.

Be sure not to miss the Argentine culture of tango when traveling to South America. Its sensuality heats up any trip!
