Jetting to exotic destinations or meandering through cobblestone alleys in Europe have become popular options for Americans especially for those who have the time and the money to splurge. Other Americans choose to stay home and explore their country. After all, few countries can rival the range of places to go and things to do in the United States. There are picturesque landscapes, towering mountains, sandy beaches, well-preserved historical sites, cosmopolitan cities, impressive art galleries, international cuisine, enjoyable sports and the list goes on, what more can any American ask for. The United States is in itself an ideal vacation spot.

Americans spend a lot of time planning their vacations. For them, vacations offer more than just a chance to bond with family and friends. It is also a time to get away and relax the mind and body. Vacations revitalize and make them appreciate what they have.

For Americans who spend their vacations abroad and for those who want to go outside the country, they most often choose to go to Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Great Britain, and Mexico in no particular order.

For a great outdoor adventure, Americans go to Australia. Divers and snorkelers relish the thrill of plunging into the watery depths of the Great Barrier Reef and slowly sinking into an underwater garden teeming with colorful fishes darting in and out of corals. Bustling Melbourne is a shopping and dining haven. The world famous Sydney Opera House provides a perfect backdrop for picture-taking. If all these are not enough, get a glimpse of the other side of Australia, the Australian Outback, home of the kangaroos, koalas and other wildlife species.

New Zealand, Land of the Long White Cloud, is a sea to sky country, a one-stop adventure paradise in a pristine environment. Forests, mountains, volcanoes, lakes, glaciers, icefalls, beaches and rivers are perfectly juxtaposed in a surprisingly compact area. Jet-boating, hiking and skiing amidst breathtaking scenery are not to be missed.

Italy is a land of rich history, culture, cuisine and magnificent landscapes. The lakes and mountains of Lombardy are tourist hot spots. Venice is every bit as bewitching as its reputation suggests. Tuscany is a sight to behold with its classic rolling countryside. Rome is a city quite unlike any other in terms of historical sights. London is an exciting metropolis. It is here that you can find a plethora of England’s best nightlife, cultural presentations, museums, galleries, restaurants and high-end boutique shops. Wherever you are staying in England, you are never more than a distance from a ruined castle, an imposing cathedral or an impressive country house.

Within the country, Americans flock to nearby lakes, seaside resorts, camping sites and other regular retreats for their well-earned get-away. Some of the popular domestic vacation places are Las Vegas, Hawaii, Alaska, beaches and theme parks in Florida and national parks.

Hawaii has beautiful weather all-year round. It has a wide choice of water sports and adventure activities. There is a lot to do and see in Maui, Oahu, Kauai and the Big Islands or simply relax at the beach, soak up the sun and enjoy the Pacific breeze.

When it comes to pulsating excitement and entertainment, Las Vegas is never far behind. Las Vegas appeals to all regardless of demographics. Take your pick, the Sin City has nightclubs, museums, shopping enclaves, restaurants and of course casinos galore.

Florida is famous for its beaches – Daytona Beach, Miami Beach, South Beach and so on. Furthermore, Orlando is always a choice pick for those looking for kid-friendly theme parks. Children and adults alike will surely enjoy Universal Studios, Walt Disney World and the Sea World.

Alaska’s claim to fame as a vacation hot spot is its great outdoors. From fishing, hiking and biking in the south lands, to climbing the majestic Mt. Mckinley, to marveling at the spectacular Hubbard Glazier, there is always something waiting for the outdoor aficionado.

National parks attract throngs of vacationers during summer. Two of the most popular are the Grand Canyon and the Yosemite. The Grand Canyon is an endless abyss of canyon walls extending around 277 miles long and a mile deep. Yosemite National Park is a preserve of valley and mountain panorama, rock formation, huge sequoia trees and amazing waterfalls. These unspoiled land reserves are haven for nature seekers.
