Rafting is a great recreational activity using a raft to journey through a river or other bodies of water. Usually done on whitewater, rafting through rough waters makes it all the more exciting and adventurous. One of the best places for whitewater rafting is the Kicking Horse River in Canada.
The Kicking Horse River is situated among two mountain ranges and six national parks in the Canadian Rockies. The scenery is also wonderful, and the waters perfect for adventurous rafting.
There are two rafting packages usually offered when whitewater rafting in the Kicking Horse River:
Mild Adventure
This package is the one most suitable for families trying out whitewater rafting, and for first-time rafters. This moderate and gentle whitewater trip allows for leisure paddling while enjoying the sceneries of the surrounding Canadian Rockies. Children 5-11 years of age are allowed to participate in this activity, as it only lasts for about 1 1/4 hours and the waters are relatively calm.
Advanced Adventure
For adventure-seekers, try taking on the whole river, particularly the thrills of the lower canyons. Here, deep canyon walls and powerful rapids awaits travelers, which makes it the most challenging part of the Kicking Horse River.
Some Safety Tips while Whitewater Rafting:
- When whitewater rafting, do not forget to bring sun protection. Although you may not feel the heat, it’s best to get as much sun protection as you can. No one would want to look like a prune after such an adventure.
- Choose the appropriate rapids. If it’s your first time to go whitewater rafting, better stay with the slow currents. Venture into stronger rapids only if you are positively secure about your swimming capacity.
- Listen to the guide since they know exactly what they’re doing and know the rivers better than you do. Keep in mind that most guides took specialty training that the average person will not have the chance to obtain. They’re here to keep you safe and so you enjoy the trip as much as possible.
