An entry in the TFS Travel Journal

Again, we woke to a rainy and gray day. We had already decided that this would be a Down Day, as we are about to head into the more, ahem, adventurous part of this trip. We lolled around the casita until we each departed for our various relaxations and indulgences, meeting back up mid-afternoon at Simple Simon’s for some more divine mini-pies (beef/onion, a greasy but spicy samosa, beef curry, and chicken with mushroom). We then stopped at our favorite pharmacy to pick up some more insecticide, then at Carver Creek Outdoors Store to pick up a couple more long-sleeve safari shirts. We then relaxed and read until leaving for Jetty Tapas restaurant.

We were a bit early, so we shared a Mitchell’s lager in their lusty and lively bar. For dinner we started with a Greek salad, then some tasty smoked springbok. We shared the seafood platter, which was allegedly for two, but could have fed four. The linefish was juicy and flavorful, and the crayfish was, as usual, excellent. We also enjoyed (inappropriate, but it was our last night in this country) the Shiraz which we had bought at Blauklippen winery, which was light enough to work with the platter.

We topped off the evening by taking this week’s malaria dose (yes, we’ve both definitely been having more vivid and detailed dreams) and finishing the various goodies that we’ll not be transporting across any international borders tomorrow. Then it was an early bedtime, since we have a 6am wake up to catch our first flight tomorrow morning.
